New Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) Required
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) issued a revised Form I-9 on November 7, 2007, Employment Eligibility Verification, and M-274, Handbook for Employers, Instructions for Completing the Form I-9. USCIS anticipates requiring employers to use the revised Form I-9 after December 7, 2007.
As a reminder, this form must be filled out within three days of hire and retained for at least three years, or one year after termination of employment if that time period is longer. PIGC has, in PDF format, the USCIS news release, Employment Eligibility Verification forms (I-9) in English and Spanish as well as the Handbook for Employers, Instructions for Completing the Form I-9. The handbook contains samples of acceptable documents which makes it easier to comply with the regulations. If you would like copies of these PDF files click on the desired document or contact PIGC by email at bill@pigc.com and the files will be attached in return email.

PIGC Partners with SmartWood to Offer Chain-of-Custody FSC Certification
at Discounted Rate
PIGC, the printing and graphics trade association in the Texas gulf coast region, has partnered with SmartWood, a certifier of responsibly harvested wood products from well-managed forests. This certification allows companies to use the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council©) logo as well as the Rainforest Alliance seal.
A program of the Rainforest Alliance, SmartWood is the world’s first global timber certification program. Paper is just one product that may be certified under this program. Print operations, as a major buyer and converter of paper products, may obtain a Chain-of-Custody certification that ensures the integrity of the FSC-certified paper has been maintained.
The benefits of certification include:
· Project a positive business image
· Capture a distinct market advantage
· Expand your product lines and increase your access to premium specialty markets
· Add power to your sales efforts through multiple web listings for your products at several web sites.
· Foster company pride by supporting global sustainability and committing to sound business practices
· Promote sustainable forestry to ensure the longevity of your business and the future of the industry
PIGC member firms will enjoy a 10% discount on the cost of certification. Also, by scheduling multiple audits during the same visit, companies will see an even greater savings.

Hazard Communication Training Program for the Graphic Arts Industry Video Now Available on DVD

Simplify training your employees on the Hazard Communication Standard by using PIGC's Hazard Communication Training Program. Previously, this industry-specific video, was available only in VHS format. Employees can now complete the required training via classroom style or individually on a computer.
The Hazard Communication Standard is an OSHA-required rule that mandates all employers in the U.S., regardless of size, must inform their employees of the hazards associated with the use of chemicals and chemical products manufactured, refined, or imported. The standard sets specific goals and guidelines for accomplishing this task. There are five basic requirements of the standard - 1) container labeling, 2) written program, 3) chemical inventory, 4) Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and 5) employee training. Every year the Hazard Communication Standard ranks in the top five OSHA violations cited in the printing and graphics industry.
To further help companies, PIGC has a Management Guide available to assist companies in creating and implementing their own program.
